Asha Vahishta Seminar/Colloquium II: #8

Sanjan Landing: The Beginning of the End of Daena Mazdayasni

Universally heralded as a salvation in the face of catastrophe, we examine the historical consequences for faith and fellowship, in connection with the Sanjan Landing.

In critiquing this narrative, we ask “what would have happened if the boat had sunk?”

Similar to a multiple-ending novel, where the reader is allowed to ‘change’ history by making key choices and decisions, participants in this session grapple with alternate constructions of Zoroastrianism, had there been no Sanjan landing.  Participants will also understand the processes by which Sanjan created Zoroastrianism.

The purpose of this exercise, in line with the Asha Vahishta Initiative and its accompanying AV Seminar Series (AVSS), is to “interrogate faith and fellowship by truth and by fire” (Mission Statement AVSS).  For education to be transformative, and for faith to be intimate and lived, notions cannot be sacred.  After all only Asha can be Vahishta.

We therefore, continue to be intellectually subversive so long as it provides a curriculum for the interrogation of belief.  The purpose is that faith become stronger and more real, and that action becomes more intentioned and purposeful.  In other words, to endow ‘Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds’ with meaning, rooted within Daena Mazdayasni.

Join us, as we question whether the salvation of the Sanjan Landing came with the expense of stifling a new beginning for Daena Mazdayasni.
